Homemade Chinese helicopter = dirty underwear

I got to hand it to the Chinese. They've got some big ingenuity and some mighty big pebbles to match. This man in the Guangdong Province in eastern China is equipped with both as he pilots his made-from-scratch helicopter in what looks like the neighborhood from Kung Fu Hustle. The pilot and owner, Chen Zhaorong, has been tinkering on this air jalopy for 10 years and dumped nearly $3,000 into constructing it. There's no way I'd be foolish brave enough to fly my own Cuisinart death trap.

This guy needs to hook up with homemade airplane guy from last week(also Chinese) to start a junkyard air force.

Stunt pilot pushes helo a little too hard (into the ground)

Dennis Kenyon has made a career out of crazy stunt flying. He also nearly killed himself doing just that on Friday when his Schweizer-Hughes 300 dug a hole in the ground with Kenyon at the controls during a performance at the Utah Rotorcraft Association Fly In in Cedar Valley. Kenyon was attempting a "wing-over" with either too much speed or not enough altitude when he crashed his tiny helicopter into the West Desert Airpark dirt infield. Suffering only minor injuries including bleeding from the head, the veteran stunt pilot is reconsidering early retirement.

Camera captures tragic Panamanian helo crash

A CCTV camera in Panama City captured this amazing footage of the last few seconds of an ill-fated helicopter as it crashes onto the rooftop of a building. The helicopter, known only as SAN-100, was destroyed and sadly 12 of the 13 souls on board perished. Half of the passengers were Chilean federal police officers and the other half were Panamanian federal police officers.

Italian helo crashes into lake

Unfortunately, these days air shows and crashes seem to go hand in hand. This particular accident happened on Sunday at the Bracciano Lake in Italy in front of the Italian Air Force Museum, at Vigna di Valle airport. Sadly, Cap Filippo Fornassi of 1 Gr Sq of the Italian Army based in Viterbo last his life. The 2 other individuals on board the NH-90 helicopter were severly injured, but rescued. It looks like they were coming out of some sort of a loop when the helo got a little too close to the water.

Turboshaft Engine Strapped to Boat

This may not concern an aircraft or rocket, per Pointniner guidelines, however, this does involve a jet engine, which gets close.

This smarty strapped a turboshaft helicopter engine to his boat and made it work. Nice use of some surplus items. Hope he has a clear path in front of him because there's no stopping a fast boat on a dime.

How to land a helo in Nepal

Not to sure on my Russian helicopters, but this looks like a Mil Mi-8 to me. Video was taken on April 19th at the "Makalu" Basecamp in Nepal. The helicopter slams down on its nose before performing a nice little pirouette. Pilot's lucky he didn't lose any rotor blades on this landing.

Record Jet Sales and Helicopter Sales Jump

The New York Times is reporting the deliveries of business jets broke an annual record in 2007 for the second consecutive year. GAMA (General Aviation Manufacturers Association) said last year, 1,138 business jets were delivered, which is a 28.4 percent increase over 2006. Both the US (giddy up) and the EU (scairbus) accounted for a large portion of the increase, accounting for 50% and 25% respectively.



Meanwhile, down at the pad, deliveries of civil turbine helicopters were up more than 25% in 2007 from 2006 and are only expected to increase throughout this year as well. This is according to Honeywell International.
