Raw Video Of Aborted Takeoff In Angola
The video above was taken on September 26 in Cabinda, Angola as the pilots of an Ilyushin Il-18 attempt to abort a takeoff run and suffer as subsequent brake fire and eventual runway excursion beyond the departure end. Of course, it's 2008 so all of the digital cameras and camera phones come out instantly from the pockets of all the ground crew.

I was surprised that the airport had emergency equipment, that said equipment worked, and that the emergency equipment responded in a timely manor.

I was reading your blog often, but now they're aren't any posts. I hope all is OK there. Thanks for all the past stories and I hope to see more in the future.
Hello, just checking to see what happened. I liked your blog a lot and it's been silent now for quite some time. Are you ok?
Flaming tires are never a good sign. Guess the antiskid wasn't 100% operable. Then again, does that thing even have antiskid?
Just proves how dangerous takeoffs are, no matter how good the aircraft.
Guess I will grab my vintage aviator sunglasses, head to the airport and make some to&ls today.
